In the 5th century the Britons were attacked by Germanic tribes, the Angels, the Saxons and Jutes, who began arriving in Britain in great numbers.
The Angels and Saxons ( Anglo - Saxons) raided Britain from what is now northern Germany , Denmark and the Netherlands (Holland) occupying much of the south and east of the country (including some parts of southern Scotland).
According to the writings of Venerable Bede, an English monk and historian, babaric Teutonic tribes of Angels, Saxons and Jutes were making raids against the Romano-British throughout the fifth and sixth centuries. The British Celts tried to resist the Germanic tribes, and that was a period of half-legendary King Arthur and his knights of Round Table who defended Christianity against the heathen Saxons.
